LANDLUBBER MAY, 1999

DAYS

I.
There are Fourths of July
there are Cincos de Mayo
Bob Marley's born on the same day Reagan's born
On July fourteenth you can sing la Marseillaise

II.
There are the days you love and the days you hate
days which you'd love it to stay
and days you wish it'd just go away
but a day is a day is a day

III.
There are Tuesdays Wednesdays Thursdays
Sundays Mondays and Fridays
Sabbaths with the rainy afternoons
and a day is a day is a day

IV.
Rainy days and sunny days
days to go out and days to sit at home
days you have to wake up early
and days you can sleep in late

V.
Spring days and summer days
Japanese Emperors' birthdays
the day when Chiang Kai-shek died
isn't the same day Rome was built

VI.
Days with lots of daylight
and days with none -- in some weird place
but they all have 24 hours
Not one is an hour more or one less

VII.
Autumn days and winter days
No two days are the same
4-20 days when you can smoke emjay
and Holocaust Memorial Days

VIII.
February days are the minority
but they aren't oppressed by those in May
The 31 August days don't gang up with July
to kick each of the September ones' ass

IX.
Children's days and Mother's Days
Women's Days but no official Men's days
Labor Days are the Firsts of May
It's different only in Canada, Japan and the U. S. of A.

X.
Some people think that one day ain't enough
for their insignificant rant and bark
so they have Chemistry Celebration Week
and the whole AIDS Awareness Month

XI.
But I like my eighty-six thousand seconds
I think that's plenty for me
and there's just four hundreds more
to make my schedule nice and sweet!
