Dress Right!

THE SECRET: THERE IS NO SECRET

Nobody knows what "fashionable dress" is. Some people (magazines) will tell you that it exists, and hint that they know what it is, but they never share the secret with you. They don't know. Nobody knows.

Who cares what you wear? The best you, as an ordinary person, can look is "okay." The worst is slovenly. That's not a hard leap to make. The hard leap is the one from "okay" to "great," and that leap is very hard. It may be impossible.

Since nobody knows what "great" looks like, nobody will know the difference.

If you want to impress people, buy them things.

A Primer for Looking Okay

  • Wear clothes that fit you.
  • Avoid synthetics.
  • Match your sock color to your pants color.
  • If you want to fit in, dress like the people around you.
  • Wash daily.
  • Be polite. Look people in the eye and talk slowly.
  • Don't wear a tie.
